Liposuction is an established technique in plastic surgery for the removal of localized fat. The first liposuction in Brazil was performed in 1980, by Frenchman Yves Gerard Illouz at the Hospital Federal dos Servidores do Estado in Rio de Janeiro, a hospital where we, Cristian and Raquel, received our training in Plastic Surgery.
With over 30 years of history and several scientific studies proving its effectiveness, in liposuction, the fat is suctioned out through a cannula connected to a vacuum device, with frequent evolution in techniques and technologies used for this. The maximum amount of fat that can be removed is calculated based on the patient's weight, at most 5-7% of the weight, and up to 40% of the body surface when several regions are treated in a single surgery: abdomen, flanks, back, thighs, saddlebags, arms, and jowls, which we call LIPOSCULPTURE. The body contours become better defined and the fat removed can be placed in other areas (more frequently in the glutes, buttocks) and can be done in association with some other plastic surgeries. The reduction of measurements in liposuction is much greater than that obtained with non-invasive aesthetic treatments and, despite the initial swelling, the results start to appear relatively quickly.
